Esports | cultural revolution or evolution ?

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far… ok not… in a near galaxy… uuuhhm okay okay whom I’m trying to cheat, actually in this galaxy.

There was a little boy that really likes to play games all day long, that child who always think about which next video-game he will buy, saving money that he really earn doing his home duties and also “extra duties” from his neighbors and family too… He always looking forward to his own future: play video games until his parents say to him “turn off that F@&?% sh!t!” Well, let me tell you something, that little kiddo was me… Oh yeah that story means to me “THE WONDER YEARS” [yes, like that Teen sitcom created by Carol Black and Neal Marlens around the 90’s…] if you are wondering why that part of my life means to me “Wonder years”

THE REASON, it’s so simple… Video-games introduced me to a whole new world at so many levels of my life. But gaming weren’t be always enjoyable as they can be… I have had to learn another language, because here in Mexico, as you probably already know, all the arriving games in the 90’s decade were in English… and for a simple Mexican boy at a Non bilingual Elementary school, that represented a little, but BIG, issue if you know what I’m trying to say. But that was just the top of the iceberg, suddenly I was involved in so much action and fantasy with my pijamas, a huge glass of milk and a bunch of Oreo cookies next to me… so yeah I was at my own wished Dream and I didn’t know it till now.

Why I’m telling all this crap? Ok here’s the thing, by now I’m a millennial that really knows why video games became in a big industry and how you can get knowledge and extract a lot of ”Business strategies” from them, just analyzing and catching the main idea of the game theme you are playing… and comparing to career that you chose or with your actual job’s goals. Video games it’s a multimillionaire industry, so it has to evolve very fast and keeping (# millions of people) entertained… At Korea they have a real big stadium for (# Thousand people)so imagine a culture where nowadays, it’s more popular a Professional video gamer than a man who actually it’s in a professional league of a traditional sport in town (for example LOL V.S. Basketball) That’s one of the best examples to show you how fast this industry is growing up, and why people all over the world are introducing to this lifestyle.

Since the appearing of online games, a big gaming communities platform to compete in, began to build, so it was not long before the creation of one of the most popular platform gaming community shows up to their actual fans Now we call it EA SPORTS ARENA… a place where tens of thousands of gamers challenging others each day playing games like NHL, NFL and FIFA. Recent researches at a few U.S universities reveals that games are helping to get their students: confidence, improvements of their psychomotor abilities and several soft skills so they are including as an extracurricular materia and doing assessments about it.

Finally it’s important to you know about risks involved if you exceed hour in your day a day playing video games, this is an extract of the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION: “Studies suggest that gaming disorder affects only a small proportion of people who engage in digital- or video-gaming activities. However, people who partake in gaming should be alert to the amount of time they spend on gaming activities, particularly when it is to the exclusion of other daily activities, as well as to any changes in their physical or psychological health and social functioning that could be attributed to their pattern of gaming behaviour” So I invite you to learn about it, use video games to get skills and not for kill your neurons! This time I wouldn’t say “Use the Force” at the end I just want to share how this big Industry helped me to learn basic level English and develop soft skills …Don’t you want to try? Let’s play video games!!!
